The South Bend Jazz Festival is a two-day, one weekend event that presents some of the most exciting names in modern jazz. Featuring artists from all over the globe, this year’s festival offers an exciting lineup that will be sure to delight and entertain party goers of all generations. South Bend Jazz Festival is held at the beautiful Century Center, located in the heart of downtown South Bend and overlooking the iconic Saint Joseph River.
The party starts Friday evening with Jazz Festival’s Club Night, a series of exclusive shows at local nightclubs. Hop from club to club as you hear, feel and experience some of the region’s top musical acts. These shows will be presented in a wide variety of local venues, featuring a dizzying array of food, drink and entertainment that music lovers of all ages will enjoy.

The music keeps flowing through Saturday on the Jazz Festival’s main stage at the Century Center, an award-winning convention center featuring over 100,000 square feet of adaptive, beautiful event spaces. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, "Southside" Denny is a legendary guitar player with ten albums to his credit. A prolific performer, Denny has played stages throughout the U.S. and Canada with such musical luminaries as Luther Allison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Ray Charles, Albert Collins, Lonnie Mack, Taj Mahal, Ko Ko Taylor, Legendary Blues Band, Sugar Blue, Bernard Allison, Larry McCray, Rod Piazza, Honeyboy Edwards, Lonnie Brooks, George Thorogood, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Styx, Edgar Winter, and The Beach Boys.
Danny Lerman is a riveting Saxophonist and composer. Danny’s CDs Danny’s Island/Chartmaker Jazz and Meow Baby/Lightyear/EMI earned stunning reviews, opening the door to international airplay, festivals and concerts in Finland, Venezuela, South Africa, Indonesia, The Netherlands, Turkey, Hong Kong, and the USA. Lerman has recorded and performed with Howard Hewett, Danny Boy, Bobby Lyle, Norman Connors, Jimmy Mngwandi, Peabo Bryson, Kevin Mahogony and Onder Focan. Lerman has opened for Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Sergio Mendez, Richard Elliot, David Benoit, Eric Marienthal, the Ghetto Boys and Joe Lovano among others.
Guitarist Adam Hawley is a gifted performer, sideman, and educator, known for his lithe, groove-oriented approach to contemporary jazz and R&B. After working steadily for over a decade with many marquee jazz and pop artists, Hawley launched his solo career with his breakthrough 2016 debut album, Just the Beginning, which featured three chart-topping smooth jazz singles including "35th Street," "Joy Ride," and "I Don't Mind." Along with performing, the guitarist has a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, and balances his time between playing live and teaching at places like Musician's Institute, Chaffey College, and Saddleback College.
Jerry attended the Manhattan School of Music in 1972 and 1973 where he studied with woodwind guru, Joe Allard. Jerry has played with Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Son Seals, Paul Shaffer, Frankie Valli, Al Kooper, Dion, James Brown, Phoebe Snow, Donald Fagen, Dr. John, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis and the legendary Keely Smith, to name just a few. Jerry's true passion in music is Jazz and R&B.
Meet The LowLifes: These four gifted musicians/entertainers have been bringing jazz back to the community of South Bend for the last ? years. Their audiences range from very young to very wise, everyone coming together to enjoy jazz/pop classics with new arrangements written by the band, for songs such as “The Wee Small Hours of the Morning” and "All of Me.” The band makes it a point to place their individual music stamp on many a contemporary and modern songs also. The song list is a very eclectic set, with a little something for everyone.
Justin-Lee Schultz was born on February 8, 2007 in Johannesburg South Africa. He moved with his family to Michigan in 2015. Justin started playing piano at the age of 5 and received an endorsement from Yamaha, South Africa that same year. His first stage performance was with his dad in East London just two weeks after he started playing.
Justin plays all genres of music from Jazz, Blues, RNB and Gospel. He is currently taking piano lessons from Professor Jeremy Siskind from Los Angeles. He loves listening to his favorite musicians: Bob James, David Benoit, Chick Corea, John Coltrane, George Duke, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
Hailing from the Netherlands, Bastian Steven's debut album, Disconnected, is “A soulful-jazzy pop album with songs about life and connections between human beings. A reflection of today’s world and some very personal, dark and sunny times”.
From 2010 till 2015, Bastian was the lead singer of The New Vintage Soul group ‘Dear Mr Man’. After 2 albums, a lot of shows at the coolest venues in the Netherlands, support act of the bands ‘KANE’ and ‘De Dijk’ and their music being used in the 2015 tv-commercial of Hooghoudt Jenever, it was time to fulfill the next dream: a solo project.
Mishawaka High School Jazz Band returns to the South Bend Jazz Festival under the direction of Dennis Gamble. Whether it's funk, rhythm and blues, or a simple swing, these Cavemen sure know how to rock!
The performing arts are at home at South Bend's Clay High School. Regulars of the South Bend Jazz Festival, the Clay Jazz Band under the direction of Michael Myers will make you boogie and bop until you just can't stop!
South Bend DJ Christian Villalobos specializes in Electronic Dance Music—but to him, it is much more than a style of music. "It takes you on a spiritual journey... anyone can play top 40 music, but it is all the same to me... in my opinion, music is meant to make you hyped up and dance. I just want more of that." Inspired by his father, also a DJ, Christian's main goal is "to get you up and dance!"
