Norman Connors is known for his musical collaborations which span music genres from jazz to R&B. At age 20, the young drummer was enrolled in Julliard and training for his life in music. His debut album with Archie Shepp, “Magic of JuJu,” lead to his playing with Pharoah Sanders until signing in 1972 with jazz label, Cobblestone Records, (Buddah Records) and releasing his first record as a bandleader. By the mid-’70s, Connors began fusing jazz and R&B and after signing with Buddah Records scored several notable hits with songs featuring guest vocalists such as Michael Henderson (You Are My Starship), Jean Carne (Love From The Sun - with Henderson) and the late, Phyllis Hyman (Betcha By Golly Wow). Connors continues to tour, and is currently writing a memoir and plans to release his next CD, titled “Royalty,” later this year. “I just finished a new album that has to be mixed and mastered,” said Connors. “It’s my 40-plus year CD celebration with about 17 guests on it.”
